Ria Formosa, a birding paradise

This protected lagoon stretches for around 60 kilometres along the coast, from the Ancão Peninsula towards Manta Rota, and covers approximately 18,400 hectares of dunes, sandbanks, salt marshes, salt pans, freshwater and brackish lagoons, reedbeds, woodland and agricultural land.
More than 200 bird species have been recorded in the protected area.
